15 Random Botanical Terms
Cuneate - Leaf shape narrowly triangular, wider at the apex and tapering toward the base.
Rhizobium - Soil-borne bacteria which form nitrogen-rich root nodules.
Apex - The topmost or distal portion of a plant or plant part.
Bipinnate - Twice-pinnate.
Native - A plant that lives or grows naturally in a particular region without direct or indirect human intervention.
Capitulescence - The inflorescence of a capitulum-bearing plant as in many species in Asteraceae.
FACW - Facultative Wetland - Hydrophyte. Usually occurs in wetlands, but may occur in non-wetlands.
Asymmetric - Lacking symmetry, e.g., the two halves of a leaf blade not alike.
Mucronate - Leaf apex with short spiny tip.
Cactus/Succulent - A plant having leaves and/or stems which are thick and fleshy.
Stipules - Leaflike structures that grow where the leaf is attached to the stem.
Rhizome - A horizontal underground stem.
Ovary - The basal part of the pistil, bearing the ovules, which later develop into seeds. See also Inferior ovary; Superior ovary.
Filament - Stalk of stamen; bears the anther.
Cordate - Heart-shaped, with the point at the apex.
